Traveling to the British Virgin Islands for a sailing charter is an exciting time, but if you haven’t been on a trip like this before, packing could seem daunting. Packing appropriately for a BVI sailing trip is crucial for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Because of limited space and the casual nature of the BVI, you don’t want to pack too much. You’ll find that you need much less than you think on this type of trip. But you’ll also want to make sure you have the right mix of clothing and essentials, as opportunities for shopping are fairly limited. We’ve put together a packing list to help you prepare for your all-inclusive sailing charter, and we’ve also included some items that you want to avoid bringing as well.

Soft-Sided Luggage: If possible, you’ll want to opt for a duffel bag or collapsible soft-side luggage that can be easily stowed in the cabins. Hard-shell suitcases can be cumbersome and challenging to store on a boat.
Lightweight, Casual Clothing: The weather in the BVI is consistently in the mid-70s to mid-80s, with moderate temperature swings at night. It is pleasantly warm and humid nearly every day during peak sailing season, and you’ll find that you really don’t need much clothing during the day. With that said, it can take a while for wet clothing to dry in the BVI, so we recommend packing quick-drying items as much as possible. Some clothing essentials includes: a few swimsuits (you don’t need one for every day of the trip!), a couple quick-drying shorts or skirts, a few t-shirt/tank tops and/or sundresses for going onshore, a lightweight sweatshirt or long sleeve shirt for cooler nights/mornings, and a few cover-ups, sarongs, or sun shirts. And don’t forget lightweight pajamas!
Some guests choose to dress up a bit more for dinner, but you certainly don’t have to. You’ll likely want lightweight dresses, shorts and collared tops, and perhaps one light sweater or jacket just in case we have a cool night. Easy, breezy, and casual is the name of the game in the British Virgin Islands!
Sun Protection: Bring a hat (or two) and sunglasses with a retainer strap (if concerned about your sunglasses falling off). Reef-safe sunscreen is provided onboard.
A long-sleeve synthetic rash guard or fishing top that dries quickly can come in handy as well. It’s nice to have the option to cover up, as you’ll be in the sun a lot more than you might be used to at home! Some people also choose to wear a top like this when snorkeling, for protection from the sun.
Footwear: Our cork decking is very foot friendly and we kindly ask that shoes not be worn onboard unless you have a medical condition that requires it. If you choose to wear shoes onboard, deck-friendly shoes with non-marking soles are ideal, but these cannot be worn ashore as they bring sand and dirt back with them.
For drinks or meals on-shore, pack comfortable sandals or flip flops. If you plan to hike, you might want to bring a pair of sneakers. For trips to the Baths or other onshore excursions, you might want a pair of water shoes or sandals with heel straps.
Toiletries and Personal Items: Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hair dryers are provided onboard. We recommend bringing travel sizes for other personal items, when possible. Other optional items include sleep masks, noise cancelling ear buds, and sleep aids.
Medications: Ensure you have an adequate supply of any prescription medications, as pharmacies may not be easily accessible.
Boats are always moving, even in calm waters, and some people are more prone to seasickness than others. To ensure your comfort, we recommend bringing seasickness remedies that work best for you—whether that’s wristbands, patches, or pills (non-drowsy). Prevention is key, as it can be difficult to treat seasickness once it begins. We also carry a variety of treatments onboard.
Dry Bags: These are invaluable for keeping electronics and valuables dry during water-based activities or when going ashore on the tender. They are also a handy way to keep all of your items together while sailing.
Books: When was the last time you read a good book? Don’t miss the opportunity on this trip for guilt-free relaxation!
Electronics Chargers: There are plenty of outlets provided throughout the boat, so make sure to bring cords to charge phones, cameras, laptops, kindles, watches, etc.
Prescription Goggles for Snorkeling: If you wear glasses or contacts you may want to treat yourself to prescription goggles for snorkeling. Incredible beauty can be seen below the surface while snorkeling the anchorages and reefs of the BVI. This could take your snorkeling experience to the next level.
Credit Cards and Cash: ATM’s are not readily available throughout the British Virgin Islands. Most credit cards are widely accepted, however some vendors may not accept AMEX. The local currency is US dollars. If you are comfortable traveling with cash, it might be best to bring a balance of cards and cash with you.
Carry-On Items: If you plan to check your luggage, we highly recommend packing a swimsuit, change of clothes, and any necessary medications or personal items, just in case your luggage gets delayed.

Aerosol Sunscreen: These can damage yacht finishes and harm reefs and marine life. Sunscreen is provided onboard, but if you prefer to bring your own, please choose a lotion-based, reef-safe sunscreen!
High-Heeled or Hard-Soled Shoes: These can damage the yacht's deck; soft-soled shoes only please.
Food, snacks, or drinks: All-inclusive yacht charters with Endless Summer III cover every meal; we promise – you will not go hungry! If you have specific dietary requirements, you will have the opportunity to let us know when you complete your preference sheet prior to your yacht charter. We will then plan accordingly and you will be well taken care of.
Non-Essential Valuables: We recommend leaving expensive jewelry, purses, and unnecessary valuables at home to avoid loss or damage while in the Caribbean.
Towels: Separate towels for showering and for water sports are provided onboard, so there’s no need to bring your own! We also provide clothes pins for drying towels and other wet clothing.
